Product Description

New Day Coming

The woman depicted in New Day Coming is hopeful and confident. She greets the future with a positive attitude, despite all of the uncertainty it brings. Yerena believes that the most important role that Art plays is not only to promote critical thinking, but to celebrate the beauty and struggles that life presents us with. The hopeful woman in this print, modeled after Yerena’s girlfriend, stands on the right and looks left, welcoming the future with all of its changes.

Ernesto Yerena Montejano was born in the small border town of El Centro, California, just 15 minutes north of Mexicali. As a child, Ernesto lived and attended school in the United States and spent much of his free time hanging out with his family south of the border in Mexicali. Yerena first became exposed to painting through his father, who worked in their backyard by painting cars, and taught him how to paint and stencil. Thus began Yerena’s practice of his craft. In later years, Yerena moved on to acquire a BA in Graphic Design and apprentice under Shepard Fairey and Self-Help Graphics in Los Angeles.
