Beg, Steal, or Borrow – The inspiration
This piece is about the necessary evil of money in today’s age. “I’ve always been drawn to creating faces or bodies. At the time, I was going through a period where, as a full-time artist, you wonder when you’re going to make enough money to stop worry about money. It’s a necessary evil in today’s age. You need money to pay the bills.” – Phillips
Brian Phillips was born an Ohio Buckeye in Greenville, Ohio. He moved to Indianapolis in 1995, where he lived for fifteen years. He now lives and works in Austin, TX. Growing up, Phillips was always drawing; his mother said it was the only thing that held his attention. Nowadays, he sees art as therapeutic and loses track of time when he creates. In his opinion, he believes that art should bring smiles into one’s life and provoke thought. Phillips is a self-taught artist, and his work is in collections all over the world.
“I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it. Art is my afterlife. Hopefully it will be around to live on for me, long after I’m gone.” – Phillips
